Our house faces to the west. When my parents were picking out our lot, they chose it because they wanted to see the sun setting behind the mountains, and since it is at the top of a hill, it's a fantastic view! Little did they know, that it is a great place to watch a storm approach as well. Since generally the storms come in from the west, we can see them off in the distance and slowly, or sometimes quickly, get closer and closer. In the image to the upper left, is the storm that went over us today, and is where I got the other pictures below from. Blacksburg is the plus sign in the circle right there in front of the reds of the storm! My house is pretty much in the path of the center of the storm.
This is the storm off in the distance. It was probably about 20-25 minutes away at this point.

As it got closer, we started being able to see the rain on the mountains.

Soon, the mountains were out of sight from the downpour...

When it starts raining on the porch, it's time to go inside!

And then it pours!

It's nice when it is a low precipitation storm because then you can stay out on the porch and watch the lightning, listen to the thunder, and watch the clouds. It's very relaxing!
