Tonight the Top 12 finalists battle it out to become THE AMERICAN IDOL! Awesome. :)
Pretty new graphics! Me likey! The set is okay I guess...looks like a space ship!
Theme tonight John Lennon and Paul McCartney! Good theme!!!
Syesha Mercado - "Gotta Get You Into My Life"
Rough beginning. I didn't like it at all actually. That did not sound all that great to me. Kind of whiny. Randy thought it was a nice arrangement, it started a little rough, but then she got in it and had some fun. It was alright to him. Paula said it started off pitch, and then she found her zone and there was Syesha. Simon thought it was a great choice of song, he just thought she looked very nervous, and she was much better than last week.
Chikezie - "She's a Woman"
He's having fun with this. Very interesting beginning with the banjo and such. This is the type of performance you need to give when you're in the top 12. I liked it. That was awesome. He just really captivated me in his performance. Randy was throughly entertained, who knew?! Randy was so excited about it, he says, "Chikezie smashed it!" Paula has been waiting for this, and the reward paid off. Simon is really surprised that he actually agreed with Paula and Randy. What he loved, he has changed in the week, he took over the stage, he was terrific. Simon also said it looked like he was drunk the whole time. He's so happy, good job Chikezie!!!! I'm so proud of him, and really glad he got in the Top 12! Let's go top 11!
Ramiele Malubay - "In My Life"
Is she singing this for Danny? She was so upset last week! Wow. I'm not sure what I think about it. She can sing, but she's not the best singer. She probably won't be in the competition much longer. Randy said it was kinda pretty, but kinda pretty boring. It didn't move any earth for him. Paula said it was pretty safe. She thinks she is an amazing singer, and she needs to take advantage with it. She thinks she is holding back. Simon said he was bored to tears throughout the entire song, he expects better than that. Conclusion: IT WAS BORING! Uh oh Ramiele, you might be able to visit Danny soon!
Jason Castro - "If I Fell"
Eehhh....no. I didn't like it at all. All it did for me was remind me of Across the Universe. Which I didn't really like. Randy liked it, but didn't love it. It's one of his favorite songs, and he thought it should have been a more heart felt thing. Paula disagrees with Randy, because she felt his heart, and it's a special connection that makes him unique. Simon said last week he was incredible, but this week it was more like, "A student in a bedroom at midnight." He's not going to make as huge impact as last week, but good enough to stay another week.
Carly Smithson - "Come Together"
This is one of my favorite songs...she better not ruin it! It was ooookkkaaayyyish. It just wasn't the version I like...I like the Beatles version! Randy loved she was strong, confident, having fun, and not a note out of tune. Paula thought she was already watching a star. Simon says week after week she has chosen the wrong song, until now, he thought it reminded him of Kelly Clarkson. The version on Across the Universe was interesting:
HELL'S KITCHEN STARTS APRIL 1st!!!!
David Cook - "Elenor Rigby"
I LOVE this song. It's hard to sing a long to, I'm glad he isn't playing the guitar with it! Focus on the song! I don't think he is doing the song justice. The rock twist to it is interesting. Not sure I'm a fan of it. It was okay. Randy said you can rock out on Idol! It started iffy, but once he got to the chorus it was rockin'. Paula says, there is more than one horse in this race? OOOkkkay...she says he is his own front man. Simon thought it was brilliant. He thinks he could win if the show stays on talent rather than popularity.
Brooke White - "Let It Be"
Another great song! I love her, she sounds great, but I'm afraid this song will be another "boring" one. She should have done it without the piano. I don't like them being able to play instruments this year. It's about singing, not playing! Whatever. Randy doesn't know if it is her strongest performance, but he thought it was a very heartfelt performance. Paula says this is her niche. The emotional connection makes people fall in love with her. Simon thought it was one of the best performances of the night, it thought it was a brilliant choice of song, and actually it is believable. Yay! I'm so glad, I was nervous for the reviews, but she got fantastic ones! I love her!!!! She's crying and is so excited. I'm happy for her! Good job Brooke! Aww. Across the Universe made this song sooo sad, even more sad then it already is, it gives me tingles and makes me tear up:
David Hernandez - "I Saw Her Standing There"
I don't like it. It seems karaoke like. Just not a fan. Randy says it was a little too overdone, and he was trying to do too much with it. Paula thought he over did it, and needed to scale back. Simon said, no no no, it was corny verging on desperate. He didn't think it was a particularly strong performance.
Amanda Overmyer - "You Can't Do That"
It's just that all her songs sound the same now...I've just heard enough of her, which is what I thought last week. She did good for her, but I'm just sick of her. I feel like that's so mean, but it's just what I feel. Randy says that is the true mark of a great song, she took a Beatles song and rocked it out. Paula says she is a star up there. She is blown away. Simon didn't think it was as good as last week, and he understood about 30% of the words. He thinks she is a breath of fresh air when she comes on. Eh. I would not be heartbroken if she were to be voted off.
Michael Johns - "Across the Universe"
Well, what have I been talking about all night that almost all these songs are in! This song was also in the movie. Undoubtedly. He sings it well, but it's nothing that really...lights my fire I guess. It's nothing to write home about. But it is a good song! Randy doesn't think it was his best performance, he was waiting for something big to happen, it was a little sleepy but it was alright. Paula disagrees with Randy again, she thinks it takes an inner strength to stand in the middle of the stage and do nothing but sing brilliantly. Simon agrees with Randy, he thinks he should have done something like the "Irish girl." They want him to go big!
Kristy Lee Cook - "8 Days A Week"
Into a country song?! WHAT?! Let's see about this...No no no no! The stars in the background are making me sick too. Something seems really off with her singing and the beat...I don't know. I don't like it! Stop singing!!! Blah! I still can't believe she got in the top 12! Randy liked the arrangement and the idea of the song, but vocally it seemed 'awkward'. Paula didn't enjoy it, she didn't get it. Simon thought it was hirendous, "You sounded like Dolly Parton on helium!" He felt that song didn't work in the style. I AGREE! It was really bad like that. I feel she blew her chance. Unless she gets the pity vote.
David Archuleta - "We Can Work It Out"
GO DAVID!!!! OH NO! He forgot words! Don't do that David! Poor kid. What's going on? You can't get in the top 12 and forget words! You can tell he is so nervous. Everyone agreed it was a mess, he shouldn't have done the Stevie Wonder version, he stumbled over his words, it was his weakest performance. We still love you David!
Favorites: Brooke and Chikezie!
Pick to get voted off is Kristy Lee Cook. But it could be Ramiele. We'll see!
Results tomorrow! Which I won't get to watch live. :(
