My mom and I went to Virginia Beach and back yesterday with a stop in Richmond on the way there. With MapQuest directions in hand, we headed off late around 7:45 (we were planning on leaving at 7). Our first goal was lunch at P.F. Chang's right when they opened, 11. We got some gas and got on 81, we were on our way! We were making some great time, we were 10 miles from the exit at 10:50, when all of a sudden we were stopped. Stopped stopped, not just very slow traffic, but completely stopped. We got out of our car and talked to the woman in the car in front of us and the man next to us. The woman had New York license plates and said her daughter is in her first year at Virginia. Barf. I tried to hold back my distaste. No, really, UVA is a great school, I just can't stand their football team, or their band...who were so rude to us when we visited. Anyway, we stood out there 30-40 minutes when we realized cars up the street were finally moving. So we said a quick goodbye to our new friends and jumped into our cars. We moved slowly along and passed the accident, I can't find anything about it on google, but there was probably more than one car involved, and the SVU looked like it had rolled over the railing and landed right side up then caught on fire. I have no idea if there had been any fatalities, since I can't find anything about it. But it looked rough. We finally made it to P.F. Chang's a little after 12 and quickly ordered. We had a yummy meal, emptied our bladders, and headed off again. This time our goal was Virginia Beach for the baby shower. The directions back to I-64 E were more confusing than the ones to get to P.F. Chang's! We ended up missing the merge with another road and so we got out at the first exit, and ended up in the little town of Carytown, which I think might be a little suburb of Richmond. We drove down Cary Street looking for any sort of signage that would take us to I-95 or I-64. Cary Street took us all the way into Richmond, we called my dad and had him look up directions from one of the stores we passed. We were two blocks from I-95! So we turned onto 14th street and hopped onto I-95 N which immediately led us to I-64 E! Way too complicated. Finally we were on our way, and had 45 minutes to go 2 hours. My mouth was a little funky from the garlic and the hot mustard I had had for lunch, and I think my mom's was too, so she suggested we stop at Hardee's or Arby's for a milkshake. I agreed, so we took the next exit that had a Hardee's. It was the same exit you would take to go to William and Mary! It was for some little town called Littlefoot or something. On our way to the Hardee's we saw a Sonic...much better. It was on the side of the road, so we had to find a spot to turn around. There was no spot to turn around, we were on a highway, not to mention a very un-marked highway so we had no idea where we were. The Hardee's had been on another exit within the exit we had gotten off on, LAME! So finally we came to an exit where we could get off then get back on the other side. My mom managed to get on the wrong side of the street that we needed to turn on, so after the light turned green, she did some fancy maneuvering and managed to get us back on the other street. So we drove back up toward the Sonic where we were trying to figure out how to get to the Sonic. I suggested to get off at one exit, but she thought it bypassed around the shopping area where it was, but the next exit had the street going away from the exit. We saw there was road where people were coming from, so we thought that was up a little bit more, we reached the exit for I-64 E and there was no access to that road! So we gave up. It was way too difficult! We gave up on getting a milkshake entirely and just headed on to Virginia Beach. We FINALLY got there an hour and 15 minutes late. She was opening presents, and it didn't seem like we missed too much. She being the new mom, Kathryn. There were three other girls there who were pregnant, and I think it startled my mom, and she probably didn't want me drinking the water from there. :P But she has to remember that these are military wives, and they get pregnant right away before their husband goes out to war or wherever they are sent. It was fun, and good to see Kathryn again. I'm sure it would have been more fun had I not gotten a searing headache while I was there. We left at about 6, we got a little lost leaving, but we stopped at a Starbucks and asked directions, so we made it back to 1-64 W! The rest of the trip went smoothly and we got home at 12:30 am. I crashed after that!
Also my fenching troll went for $10.50! I'm so excited. That's pretty awesome. :) My rocker troll is still up for grabs though if you want it!!!
I think I will be putting a couple more trolls up on ebay, so watch out for those! :)
