Theme tonight is 70's classics.
First up tonight is the Australian, Michael Johns. He sings, "Go Your Own Way." I don't think he is quite up to his potential, the notes when he sings the chorus seems a little forced. I still enjoyed it. He's good! Randy liked it, said it wasn't his best. Paula said he had the crowd working, and he's a seasoned performer and charming. Simon said he coasted along, it was his weakest performance.
Jason Castro is the next contestant up, singing, "I Just Want to Be Your Everything." I like it today. I don't like that they can perform with instruments though, it takes away from their performance a little. But it sounded good, so yay. Randy says that it is all cool with the guitar, but if you take away the guitar, the vocals were okay. Paula thought it was better than Randy was saying, and says he had a clever choice with the song. She requests that he gets rid of the guitar. Simon thought it was horrible, his vocals were weak. Simon thought he looked uncomfortable in the performance. He also keeps saying some weird word, "smulchy?"
The acapella-est, Luke Menard, is up next with, "Killer Queen." I love Queen, but I don't like his performance. It didn't really show off any sort of vocal range, and was right around the same note the whole time. So, I'm going with a no...Randy says he chose a tough song?! No way. Maybe because there was a lot of words?! Paula said he picked the right song. It was a great week for him. Simon says it was a mistake because he is always going to be judged with the original. He said the singer of that song had charisma and a personality, and he didn't. It was verging on whiny. I agree with Simon for once! ...or twice.
The rocker Robbie Carrico sings, "Hot Blooded," next. Kevin's comments next to me are, "Karaoke, not even singing." I don't know...it isn't is best performance, I know that. But it isn't terrible. Okay, it kind of fell apart toward the end there, so...I'm nervous for him. Randy says he isn't sure if rock is his thing. Paula says, "How does anyone know who you are but you?" She thinks he played it a little bit safe this week, and says sometimes you can lose your personality and character when you play it safe. Randy says rock is like an attitude, it isn't something you have to prove. Simon gets in that he doesn't have to get so defensive about it, but he thought it was a good vocal tonight. Wow.
Danny Noriega sings, "Superstar." I hate this guy's attitude, but he is a good singer. It's just you wish he would be bad and totally blow it so he can be GONE! Randy says there was some problems, he felt he could speed it up and he was thinking too much. He needs to let it go, and not think what he needs to do with it. Paula thinks he has amazing vocal skills, and agreed with Randy. Simon says, last week was a disaster, this one was better. Simon likes how he stands out in the crowd and he looks good on camera.
Former gymnast, David Hernandez, sings, "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." The faces he makes when he is singing are really weird! Other than that, he sounded pretty good. It didn't start out too great, but he really brought it together in the end. Randy, check this out dog! He says this is the David Hernandez they fell in love with, he says that was hot right there. Paula says his voice is so pure it pierces right through the heart. Simon says that was the best vocal of the night so far. Good job David, you pulled through it tonight!
Jason Yeager sings, "Without Love." He moves around too much, it makes me sick watching him. I do not like this at all, it sounds horrible! Especially those longer notes, they sound off. Seems confident though. Randy says, that wasn't a singers kind of song and was very pitchy and karaoke. Paula says it was fun to see this side of him, she says it is a song without many notes in it. Simon says it was corny and he is just a quite good singer and can't perform very well. I wouldn't be surprised if he was in the bottom two.
The contestant from Inglewood, Chikezie, sings, "I Believe to My Soul." It was pretty good. Randy says Chikezie is back. He loved it. Paula thinks it was brilliant and fun. Simon says he looks better and sounds better.
David Cook is next with, "All Right Now." He pulled off playing the guitar well. I liked the performance. It was fun! Randy liked how it was like a real rock show, he really really liked it and it was a smart choice of song. Paula says the band is on fire tonight, and David has got it. Simon adds, that it was solid, but he didn't like the interview before hand with the crosswords. He thought it was too boring and that he doesn't have charisma.
Last is David Archuleta with, "Imagine." This is an amazing song. I love it. And this kid can really sing it. It's an interesting take to it. Great job! I really liked his performance. It wasn't fast, but it didn't make me bored! Randy, "dog, that's one of the best vocals I ever heard on this show!" Paula says, it was one of the most moving performances she ever heard and that he is destined for super stardom!. Simon says he is the one to beat, and now there are 19 very miserable contestants tonight. Awesome. I'm voting for him!!!
Favorite...duh, David Archuleta!!!
